What to expect, step by step
We remove makeup and sunscreen, then look closely at where congestion sits, often the nose, chin and forehead, so extractions are targeted rather than all over.
Warm steam loosens hardened oil in the pores. In the chemical exfoliation version, an exfoliating solution is also applied at this stage to dissolve dead surface cells.
Your esthetician clears blackheads and whiteheads with gloved fingertips and specialized tools, working area by area. Expect pressure and brief discomfort, and ask for a pause whenever you need one.
A soothing mask and hydration settle the skin, followed by SPF. You leave with simple instructions for the next 24 hours to keep freshly cleared pores clean.

From late spring through October, Boca Raton humidity keeps skin slick, and layering water-resistant sunscreen every day, which you should keep doing, adds to the buildup. After a few weeks of beach days, golf or outdoor workouts, pores around the nose and chin fill up fast. A deep-pore facial every month or two clears them so sunscreen and moisturizer sit on clean skin.

You will feel pressure and some brief stinging, mostly around the nose and chin, but it should never feel sharp or unbearable. Steam softens the pores first, which makes extractions easier. Tell your esthetician if you need a break and we will slow down.
Most redness fades within a few hours, and nearly all of it settles within 24 hours. Sensitive skin or heavily congested areas can stay pink for up to 2 days. A cool compress and a plain moisturizer help it calm down faster.
A few small spots in the first days can happen as congestion that was already under the skin comes to the surface. This usually passes within a week. Keep your routine simple and avoid picking so the skin can settle.
Leave makeup off for the rest of the day. Freshly cleared pores are open, and foundation or concealer pressed into them can clog the same spots again. From the next morning, non-comedogenic or mineral products are the safest choice.
Every 4 to 6 weeks keeps most blackheads in check, because that is roughly how long pores take to refill. Very oily skin may benefit from coming a little more often at first, then spacing visits out once congestion is under control.
