What happens in the chair
We cleanse thoroughly and make sure the skin is completely dry, since a clean, oil-free surface lets the blade glide evenly.
Holding the skin taut, your esthetician glides the blade in short, feather-light strokes across the cheeks, forehead, chin and upper lip. You will hear a soft scraping sound but should feel no pain.
With the dead layer gone, calming and hydrating products absorb easily, so your skin gets a generous layer of moisture.
A broad-spectrum SPF goes on last. Your skin will feel noticeably soft to the touch, and makeup will sit more smoothly from the next day.

Humidity is hard on makeup, and peach fuzz plus dry flakes make foundation look patchy by the time dessert arrives. Dermaplaning removes both, so makeup blends in thinner and stays smoother through a wedding at a Boca club, a Mizner Park dinner or a winter gala. Plan it a couple of days ahead so your skin has time to settle.

No. Dermaplaning cuts fine vellus hair at the surface and does not change the follicle, so hair grows back with the same thickness and color. Regrowth can feel slightly blunt for a short time because the tip was cut, which is where the myth comes from.
Not quite. Both use a blade, but dermaplaning is a professional exfoliation: the esthetician works at a controlled angle to remove dead skin cells along with peach fuzz. Shaving mainly removes hair and leaves the dead layer behind.
Dermaplaning is generally considered one of the gentler exfoliation options during pregnancy because it uses no chemicals. Check with your OB first and tell us you are expecting. Our pregnancy facial is another option designed around this stage.
Every 3 to 4 weeks lines up with how quickly dead skin and fine hair return for most people. Going more often than that is not necessary and can leave skin feeling over-exfoliated.
Not over active, inflamed breakouts, because the blade can irritate them and spread bacteria. If you have a few small blemishes, your esthetician can work around them. For ongoing breakouts, a deep-pore or clarifying facial is usually the better choice.
The smooth, bright finish lasts until dead skin builds up and peach fuzz grows back, typically about a month. Skin looks its best in the first week, which is why timing it before an event matters.
Next-day makeup is when the finish looks best. Giving your skin the rest of the day bare is kindest, though a light layer of clean mineral makeup is fine if you need it.

At-home facial razors can remove peach fuzz, but they are not the same as a professional treatment and make it easier to nick yourself. A licensed esthetician works at a precise angle, removes the dead skin layer evenly and knows when not to treat.
Book a trial 4 to 6 weeks ahead if you have never had it, then a final session 2 to 3 days before the wedding. That leaves time for any unexpected sensitivity to settle while your skin is still at its smoothest.
